Hornets come close in Grand Final

The Harden Hornets came close, but just missed out on taking the win in the Under 13s South West Slopes Junior Cricket League competition over the weekend.

The Hornets 4/136 were defeated by the Arthur Stacey Stars 5/140 from Temora when they faced off at Clarke Oval in Cootamundra on Saturday.

The Temora side won the toss and went in to bowl first.

Opening the batting for the Hornets was Alexander McMillan and Joshua Guy.

Alexander put in four runs before he was sadly caught out, Joshua scored 16 before being bowled out by Angus Oliver for the Temora side.

Fletcher Betts added one to the run-sheet before unluckily being bowled and caught out by Isaac Gamble.

Alec Weston finished up on 22 before retiring, not out.

Ardy Abnett was unlucky being bowled and caught by Jacob Potter on 12 and Andreas Macfarlane retired not out on 12, Jack Allen finished up on 3 not out and Charlie Beal 2 not out before the Hornets declared leaving the Temora side to chase their 4/136.

Fall of wickets for the Hornets was 1-4 Alexander Mcmillan, 2-22 Joshua Guy, 3-26 Fletcher Betts, 4-44 Ardy Abnett.

On the field and with the ball the Hornets put up a good fight with Charlie Beal taking a catch, Alec Weston running out Spencer Fernie, Andreas Macfarlane taking a catch, Ardy Abnett bowling out Lucas Roberts with the Harden side also taking a catch and a run out, however, a good opening stint for the Stars, as well as a solid stint by Ben Robinson and Barney Taylor opened the door for the Temora side to take home the win.
