Eagles fly in Woodbridge opener

Eugowra's Golden Eagles have opened their Woodbridge Cup campaign with a home-ground win on their Old Boys day.

The club's senior men's side had a 40-18 win over the Cargo Bulls, running in nine tries on the Ian Walsh football field.

Fullback Noah Girot-Serplet bagged a double - and added the extras with two successful conversions.

William Fonohema, new to the team and wearing the number 10, also crossed the line twice and Tevita Kengike, Matthew Park, Epeli Uluinavucu, Brodie Adams and Poniparte Komai added one apiece.

But it was a day of mixed fortunes for the club, with Eugowra's league tag and youth league having losses in their opening rounds.

League tag battled out a close and low-scoring game against Cargo: Jada Mongan scored for Eugowra, the conversion the difference with a 4-6 final score.

Youth League entered the competition with a contest against Manildra, but the visitors dominated 4-52.

Eugowra's try scorer was Beau Bollinger.
